“oubassman” from over at the kayakbassfishing.com forum has taken a couple classes with me over the past two seasons. He’s the most recent “KFPA Smallmouth Challenge Qualifier“. He made a big splast (pun intended) with an 18.5″ smallmouth bass. Instead of going on, I’ll just let him tell the story!
Juan,
Ok here’s my official entry; an 18.5″ smallmouth caught with the spinnerbait technique that you shared on our first guided trip.
I was floating a 4 mile stretch of the Shenendoah River in WV on a Saturday morning. We were about 30 minutes into the float and getting closer to some shallow water/ledge rocks, and I came up to an isolated ledge rock just above water with a big log on it. I floated around the side and swung back into the eddy. I was throwing a Strike King white and chartuese silver willow leaf spinnerbait on a 7′ Mojo Spinnerbait rod. It was about the third cast of throwing into the fast water and bringing it back into the eddy. About halfway back to the kayak, it got slammed by this smallie. A couple of minutes later it’s in the kayak!
Congratulations on a great smallmouth bass oubassman!!
